Chief David Stuurman, is of Nxuba clan, uRhudulu, Mngwevu, Mhlatyana, uSkomo. He is the son Matoti who had five wives, David Stuurman and Klass Stuurman were born from the fourth wife a Khoisan woman whose origin is Griqua people (amaGiqwa) as commonly known by Xhosa people. Matoti is the son of Mfebe a brother to Koyana and Zozo. Their father is Pulu son of Dladla, Dladla who is the son of Machaphaza , Machapaza son of Tshangisa and a brother to Nxuba.

During the time of Tshangisa we would recall his involvement, where upon Tshawe had a feud with Cirha his elder brother. Tshawes mother having been a sister to Skhomo who is the father to Tshangisa, and Regent of the Mpondomise Nation. Tshangisa was assigned by his father after Tshawes father Nkosiyamntu passed on, Cirha claiming to be a heir to Nkosiyamntu fought with Tshawe whom later in his defeat he flea to his uncles in the Mpondomise nation under the Rhudulu clan. Tshawe was then assisted by his cousin Tshawe to defeat Cirha. In fear of Cirha that he may return upon being defeated by the Rhudulus of the Mpondomise nation, Tshawe offered a land in the Xhosa land, whom amongst the Eastern Cape landscape was named after Tshangisa's son as (Phesheya kweNxuba) bordering from Fish River to Tsitsikama and some Gamtoos River boundaries.

This very important history is to be noted, as it provides significancy as to why David Stuurman sought to defend the land that was given to his great grand father Tshangisa. It should also be noted that in his time David Stuurman lived along with the other Xhosa chiefs and warriors the like Chief Chungwa of Gonuqua (Gqunukhwebes), Chief Ndlambe with his warlord Makana aka Nxele.

In noting these three Xhosa warriors, (Chungwa, Ndlambe and Makana) these are amongst his closest alies whom David Stuurman was assisted by in resisting the invasion of the Xhosa land. It should also be noted that no any other time than during David Stuurman era you would distinguish between Xhosa and Khoi people.

David Stuurman led the first arm struggle against white domination dating back as 1799, having been a commissar in the castle of Port Elizabeth and smuggle out weapons to the Xhosa nation. David Stuurman is still the only man who has been recorded in history to escape not once but twice in Robben island after his arrest. In his second escape from Robben island he was with Makanda aka Nxele, who did not make it to the shore and was drown in the sea. In 1816 from his second escape, he went to exile and was in hiding under the Chief Chungwa of the Gqunukhwebes in the Ngqushwa area. He met his seventh wife a daughter to Chief Chungwa and sister to chief Kama and Phato.

In 1823 David Stuurman was arrested, and this time around the settlers had him imprisoned in Australia, were mixed stories of his death are communicated differently that in 1830 he was thrown in the seas of Australia to be drown, whilst some say he died of natural cause at the age 58 yrs and was burried in a mass grave site.

We uphold your spirit nzala kaMatoti, kaMfebe, kaPulu, kaDladla, kaMachaphaza kaTshangisa, kaSnuka, kaSkomo, ka Rhudulu, Ndunu, kaMpondomise kaSibisinde. Sithi Aah Zululiyangoma. Lala ngoxolo Mngwevu

  1. Rhudulu I would like to point out or ask about "Khoisan" as this term seems to have only surfaced in the last century and is misleading to the actual people of Africa. Khoena/Khoi is a different tribe to San even though there are similarities as do all African tribes. I would love to read as to how he became chief of the Khoe the Gonuqua's to be precise.
